Weekend Report: 2er on Fire, Kassel, and the will to succeed
Weekend Report: 2er on Fire, Kassel, and the will to succeed
Hannover, Germany
So, basically, if you were not in Hannover on Saturday, you were as missed as Geronimo (Have you seen him?).
2er on Fire is by far the funniest, rowdiest, glass-breaking-iest party of the year in Germany and it brings together people from all over the world (India, Europe, USA to name a few) who want to celebrate building their own shit and skating it. 2er is a DIY park occupying several million square meters (I do NOT understand the metric system, btw) in Hannover and each year the good chaps hold a “team contest” and party.
Johannes Haist won 2er with his nose blunt on the cradle, and the Koloss team proved they were by far the most wasted… to no surprise. Many people got cut like hell by glass: Ari and Brody both needed stitches in a serious way. The Lifeblood/Unheard crew showed up super late (their loss), but still entertained the crowd on arrival, and apparently skated the next day (they also helped clean, which was cool).
Next Johannes and I went to Kassel to lift a hand and shoot some tricks. Mr. Wilson is a fun indoor park in the center of Germany. The proprietors have been, literally, working day and night to finish the DIY back-yard park in time for the skate-club’s 25th anniversary. That shit goes down on Saturday the 30th and you should be there. FO REAL. The DIY hosts granite ledges, barriers, a pool-like structure called a jaccuzzi and the whole lot.
Giant thanks goes to Baumi, Bo and the entire 2er crew! Also to Matze at Mr. Wilson and the builders. I can’t believe the progress of the DIY there. Last shout out goes to all of the people who showed up and helped out with 2er on Fire. You are the real MVPs!

Sunday session at Bryggeriet
As it was raining all day on Sunday some vert hungry skaters were more than happy when John Magnusson opened up the Bryggeriet skatepark for a night session on the vert ramp.
– Riley Stevens was shredding hard on his first session on a vert ramp.
– Chris Russell did frontside hip-hop inverts… wow, try that, threw some eggs and did head high frontside airs.
– Willis Kimlbel was flying over the ramp with boned out bs airs and tall andrecht handplants.
– Tyler Edtmayer showed some high airs.
– Mark Scott caused some chaos.
– Alex Sorgente smashed the coping with his body jars.
– Björn Lillesoe had nice bonelesses.
– Neal Hendrix stalled inverts to fakie and blasted some high airs.
– Sean Goff did smith grinds, sweepers and laybackairs.
– John Magnusson dropped in a few times and just did perfect runs with a ton of tircks.
Thanks to John Magnusson for the great session and a fun weekend in Malmö.

Weekend Report: Leipzig, Selb, and Blackriver
Mack gave me my very first fingerboard on my birthday a few days ago, so naturally I had to use it. Where do the top fingerboarders from around the world flock? No, not the glistening, sandy beaches of Tahiti; but rather misty, rural Schwartzenbach, Bavaria. So that is where “Fingy” (my fingerboard’s name), Gerd from Bailgun, and I marshaled. First we checked out the Leipzig park in Conne Island, an occupied party-land with a Minus Ramps park. I basically got mo-murdered on warm ups, so we packed the rig, and rallied to Selb for the opening of the new wavepark. Built in 11 weeks, this new creation from +Blackriver Ramps+ was formed by a handful of volunteers and cost roughly €30K. Now kids and adults alike can cruise around a flowing, fast, flawless park near the Czech border. We hung out for the opening, partied like hell, skated in the morning and then cruised to Martin’s backyard pool in Schwartzenbach. MVP of the weekend definitely goes to Herwig König for his bottomless trick back and energy to skate all day and night. Runner up MVP goes to the Schinkenbier (smoked beer, tastes like bacon…. email me for details) for being there when no other beer was. Honorable mention goes to the DOUBLE COPING on the Selb vert ramp. Why have just one coping? Giant thanks to Martin and his lovely family for everything, you guys are truly the best. Also big thanks to the Nuremberg crew, Kaktus and the Selb crew, and to Chicken, for being cute.

BANDSALAT featuring Randy Holden
Hello Dear readership. This is the second installment of „Bandsalat“, courtesy of Bailgun. And today we’re bringing you some serious „Stoner Rock“! Randy Holden! It really doesn’t get much heavier than this as far as guitar gnarlers go. One of the first bands he was in was „The Fender IV“ who did this burly rendition of
„Mar Gaya“, a ripping surf guitar instrumental. He went on to play in a bunch of other bands after that, but it wasn’t until he joined Blue Cheer, maybe the first Heavy Metal band, that he really started to stretch his stoner wings. In 1969 he formed a band with one other guy and called it „Population 2“ as it was just the two of them. The record is nearly impossible to to find even on CD, but if you’re into Stoner Rock or heavy duty guitars then you might want to give it a shot. Until next time, this is Bandsalat saying „Get stoned“!
Denver – One Gathering contest
For the past few years, the Stronghold Society has been hosting the One Gathering – Skate for Life event at the downtown Denver Park. Not only is this event significant for its root cause: to bring skateboarders and enthusiasts of varied backgrounds together from Colorado and neighboring states, and to draw attention to Denver’s historical ‚D‘ Park. People of all ages and all walks of life head down to the skatepark to enjoy a beautiful day in the amazing weather. The event is extremely unique because it is blessed by the Native American tribes of South Dakota and also hosts some of the Tribes’ best skateboarders!
Here are some of the highlights…I am already looking forward to next year’s event!
