Rollbrett e.V. Premier- a lost art of video premier gatherings revisited

Karlsruhe, Germany

I can’t even remember the last time I went to a skate-video premier: maybe at the Blue Bird Theater, or Andenken art gallery in Denver 2006? Not sure. Nonetheless, I watch more and more clips and less and less ‘videos’ as I de-evolve from being a present part of the skateboard social scene to a dusty digital lurker.
So, it was really nice to physically go to a premier, skateboard, drink beers, and watch the new short video Fred Simmons shot over the winter in the excellent non-profit indoor skate park ran by the local skate club Rollbrett e.V. I often bore of skatepark footy, but Fred invigorated the otherwise sterile park environment into a colorful backdrop for great tricks. The video was cleverly edited and skaters included Fred himself (I say, video MVP), Switch Steffen, Gert Mema, Patrick Federlechner, me, Alex Mizurov, Johannes Haist, Nico Manz, Dennis, Carlo, Little Reece, Steffen Capitano, and Victor Schmidt to name a few. Thanks to Fred and the Rollbrett e.V. for hosting a premier. We should all seriously do this more often. -LS

The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975

The Black Power Mixtape 1967-1975
Check out this film if you can.

“The Black Power Mixtape examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in the black community and Diaspora from 1967 to 1975. The film combines music, startling 16mm footage (lying undiscovered in the cellar of Swedish Television for 30 years), and contemporary audio interviews from leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars”.
